The federal government established the medicare programs for persons over the age of 65, those on social security disability for 2 years, those on kidneydialysis, those born before 1909 and retired rail road workers. Medicare A covers inpatient care in hospital, nursing home care, following spitalization of at least 3 days, hospice service, and 80% of medical equipment. It does not pay for private duty nurses, private rooms in hospitals or nursing homes unless it is medically necessary. Medicare B covers doctor's visits, diagnostic tests, services of psychologists, chiropractors, podiatrists, optometrists, outpatient therapy service, dental work, resulting from an accident, or disease, medical supply, ambulance service. REASONS TO CHOOSE AN ASSISTED LIVING HOME OVER OTHER TYPES OF FACILITIES!

*PRICE    ( compare  paying a caregiver at home around at least $10 an hour so for 24 hours would be $240 a month $7200)  group homes we are working with are charging much lesser than that. Compare to  a nursing home a month for the highest level of care  IT'S HALF THE PRICE ! You will be asking how is this possible but the answer is very simple: smaller facility less  expenses and bills so the senior get to pay less.
   * LESS WORRIES-    many times the caregiver doesn't show up (car broken or who knows what else) group homes have a 24 hours a day caregiver on duty
*SERVICES - the manager of the group home is in charge with ordering medication, pick them up, transport the resident  to doctors appointments and keep in touch with doctors for any problems occurring
*QUALITY CARE-  the manager is responsible with all the aspects from food , hygiene , activities.  A good ratio of patients to caregivers and lots of activities make this option great for all seniors.

We can help you in emmergency discharges, respit care, behavioral and mental behavioral placements, hard to place cases in one of the 800 facilities we are contracted with all over Arizona !!

Assisted living group homes are licensed by the Health Department and are for 5 or more residents. The homes are equipped and  set up for the care of residents and inspected yearly for the smooth running and good operation. The home owner or the manager would present the facility to you and talk about services they offer. There are small differences between homes in regards to the service they offer but you will need to decide which one suits your needs.
Many of the group homes are taking only private pay but we can present to you some taking state pay if this is what you are looking for.
Assisted living homes are licensed by the State for ALL levels of care, and can be a great place for independent living seniors, so in case the resident's health is declining you will not need to move him or her in another facility.

Among the diseases and illnesses assisted living homes care for are: dementia, Alzheimer's, diabetes, colostomy, anemia, incontinences, cancer, strokes, heart attacks and many others...

Among the services assisted living     homes are offering: meal preparation, housekeeping, bathing/grooming, customized diets, foleys, feeding tubes, medication management, activities  and many more...
Also the assisted living homes work in coordination with doctors and nurses, assist in discharge planning, order medical equipments and supplies, assist with paper work for insurance companies if needed.Veterans discounts and benefits are available and we can help you to apply for them if qualified.

Memory, memory, memory ...first sign that your parent needs help!

In some cases, memory loss among the elderly may be due to so-called "silent strokes," new research suggests.
Such strokes, which may not cause any noticeable symptoms, result in small pockets of dead brain cells, and are found in roughly 25 percent of older adults, the study team noted.
"The new aspect of this study of memory loss in the elderly is that it examines silent strokes and [brain] shrinkage simultaneously," study author Adam Brickman, of the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer's Disease and the Aging Brain at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, explained in a news release from the American Academy of Neurology.
The research, which was funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, is slated for publication in the Jan. 3 issue of the journal Neurology.
The study authors arrived at their conclusions after working with 658 men and women aged 65 and older, none of whom had a history of dementia.
All the participants underwent MRI brain scans, as well as testing to gauge their capacities in terms of memory, language skills, thinking speed and visual perception.
The brain scans revealed that 174 of the participants had experienced silent strokes, and the investigators found that these seniors did not perform as well on the memory exams. This finding held regardless of whether the part of the patient's brain responsible for memory (the hippocampus) was found to be relatively small or not.
"Given that conditions like Alzheimer's disease are defined mainly by memory problems, our results may lead to further insight into what causes symptoms and the development of new interventions for prevention," Brickman noted in the news release. "Since silent strokes and the volume of the hippocampus appeared to be associated with memory loss separately in our study, our results also support stroke prevention as a means for staving off memory problems," he added.

Testimonials:
"I never believed that my mother (84)  is going to survive, after she came out from hospital; her poor health and shape give me and my family reasons to believe that her days were counted...this is when Vera took over and with her experience and knowledge in the field made miracles ; my mother is still alive and VERY WELL; my family and me appreciate  Vera for  the rest of our life. In case you want to be convinced that this is not one of those "phonies" testimonials I will give Vera permission to give my phone number to you, so you can hear more how helpful and experienced she is in what she is doing.
